Investigating Materials

For Science this week we looked at separating materials. We investigated different ways materials can be separated such as filtering, sieving, evaporating, handpicking, funneling. Here you can see the children trying to separate rice and salt and filtering tea in a cup.

The foggy heath and our amazing school councilors!

This week in Art the children created an amazing piece of artwork using charcoal and newspaper. Have a look at this amazing piece of artwork created by the ever so talented Aysel. The children used charcoal to create a foggy/misty effect on the page but also to show a chaotic and mysterious atmosphere. We also used newspaper to add vocabulary or parts from our Macbeth script to create an eye catching setting.
5S’ amazing school councilors Joshua and Elinoy. They were chosen because of the many attributes these possess, at ACE they are what would call an ‘always child’. Someone who is always doing the right thing and someone who shows others the right way. We are excited to see all of their amazing contributions and the enthusiasm they bring to the role.

Looking beneath the microscope and Math journaling

Here is a candid picture of Caitlin analysing her strand of her after watching a video about hair under the microscope where we got to see the makeup of our cells all the way to inside the nucleus. The children were mesmerised at watching the journey.
Well done to Zaina who has started our Maths journal with the most beautifully presented and calculated work. This is definitely a WAGOLL! (What a good one looks like). It is amazing to see the children using their Maths skills outside of the classroom.

Our week in 5S

We have had a fabulous second week in 5S. The children have really settled well and showed so much dedication and excitement towards their learning but most particularly towards our class production of Macbeth. As we have been practising our scenes, the children have read with such fluency, expression and joy – they look forward to the point in the day where we get our scripts out and become the characters of Macbeth.

Today was our first library visit as 5S. As always the children enjoyed the variety of books on offer and the calming spaces to read them in. Below is a picture of just that.

The children were praised many times by passing staff members about their amazing behaviour and how beautifully they were reading.

ACE Talent Show and Tablas

The ACE Talent Show was a great success and we thank all the parents who attended and the Year 6 team who made it happen. The children thoroughly enjoyed watching and being a part of it. They have definitely risen the bar high for next year.

The girls are playing Tablas and chanting along to a song…..both which originate from the South Asia. They have been having soooo much fun discovering music and instruments from different parts of the world.

Last Week!

We had a very busy week here in 5A. We delivered the donations we received from our successful appeal to British Red Cross and they were very pleased! We planted cuttings from a geranium plant in groups and will be observing how it grows over the coming weeks. Lastly, we drew self portraits Julian Opie style and enjoyed being introduced to the world of Tablas. Here are some picture from our week!
