ANTI-BULLYING WEEK

We have loved getting involved with anti-bullying week this week and have learnt about the consequences of using ‘banter.’ The children were able to remember their previous learning and build upon this to deepen their understanding of how to stand up to bullies and to ensure that school is a safe place for all. The children then applied their knowledge to creating posters and sharing these at our anti-bullying picket. Take a look below!

THE CONTINUATION OF FILMNG IN YEAR 5

As the film premiere date approaches, we have continued to film all things Macbeth in Year 5. We have not only filmed off sight, but have learnt a dance with the special help of Miss Allison. The children have loved the different location shots and have been really supportive of their peers as they have filmed various scenes. The banquet scene with all 90 children is a definite highlight from this week and we can’t wait to share all we have done with you on the 24th November. If you are a parent or career of a Year 5 child please check emails about the timetable for the film premiere release.

FILMING ALL THINGS MACBETH

This week, we begun filming for our film production of Macbeth, we have done this in the school grounds and have even been lucky enough to go to Kirkstall Abbey to film on location. We will be finishing filming in the first week back after half term and will even visit a local heath to add to the setting of our production. We can’t wait to share all our work with you, but until then…. take a look at a sneak preview.

CORAM Shakespeare Schools Foundation Workshop

National Poetry Day in Year 5

Thursday 7th September was National Poetry Day and in Year 5 we learnt the famous witches spell from Macbeth. The children learnt this off by heart, thought about their expression and created actions.

They then used the original spell as inspiration for their own poems. We collected some disgusting ingredients and attempted to create our own rhyming couplets of 7 syllables. The children were brilliant at this and really impressed their teachers.

Magnificent Music!

This half term in Year 5, all of the children have a weekly music lesson from a specialist ukulele teacher. This week, 5S have been learning the names of the strings and have learn to play The Thumb Brush Strum in their lesson. We all enjoyed playing a piece of music together and learning all about finding the pulse of a song. Well done, 5S!

Spielberg, watch out!

This week, 5S have started to engross themselves further into Macbeth. All children have been given a part and have started to learn more about their character’s storyline and have been learning their lines. Children have also become student directors and have been helping their classmates to really perform for their audience, reminding each other that every facial expression and action has a reason behind it. We’ve practised how to use our voices for effect and how a variety of levels help to show status. Great work 5S!
